Animals in the Wadden Sea area are giving birth en masse which was also watched en masse on TV yesterday. Over 1.2 million people in the Netherlands watched the second episode of the documentary series The Wadden Sea on NPO 1, according to figures from Stichting Kijkonderzoek, which made The Wadden Sea the best watched primetime-programme of the evening.

The Wadden Sea is a co-production of Ruben Smit Productions and BNNVARA. Smit and his crew filmed more than 500 hours of material in five years. He previously made the documentaries Living on the Edge, The Living River, and also co-directed De Nieuwe Wildernis (The New Wilderness) about nature in the Oostvaardersplassen.
