DGFE Acquires Foreign-Language Oscar Entry TONIO

SKOOP Media Global Entertainment has acquired worldwide rights to Paula van der Oest’s “Tonio,” the Dutch entry for the foreign-language Oscar race.

“Tonio” is the third film by van der Oest, after “Accused” and “Zus & Zo,” to be selected by the Dutch committee to compete for an Oscar nomination.

Based on Dutch author A. F. Th. van der Heijden’s popular book and adapted by Hugo Heinen, “Tonio” tells the true story of the tragic accident that killed the author’s only son, Tonio, at age 21.

NL Film produced the drama with NTR, Zilvermeer Prods. and Nanook Entertainment.

SKOOP Media will start selling the film at Toronto with the company CEO Pim van Collem and Fulko Kuindersma, the head of acquisitions and marketing, both attending the festival.

SKOOP Media’ Toronto slate also includes Mark Verkerk’s “The New Wilderness,” the highest-grossing Dutch documentary.
